Writing stories where truth hides in plain sight.
I’m S. Lee Davis, author of The Girl in the Window, Pine Mountain, and Disappearing Tide.
I write stories that explore what remains after trauma, loss, and silence—both lived and imagined. My work is rooted in an enduring fascination with memory, resilience, and the ways the past continues to shape the present long after the moment itself has passed.
Whether writing memoir or fiction, I’m drawn to emotionally layered stories that uncover hidden truths, examine the complexities of survival, and give voice to those often left unheard. I’m less interested in easy resolutions than in the quiet spaces where grief, endurance, hope, and human connection intersect.
My stories often inhabit the tension between darkness and resilience, asking difficult questions while leaving room for reflection, ambiguity, and emotional truth. Through cinematic settings, atmospheric tension, and deeply human characters, I aim to create narratives that linger with readers long after the final page.
My work often centers on themes of survival, identity, and truth—how people carry what they’ve lived through, and how those experiences shape the choices they make.
I’m interested in the quiet moments as much as the dramatic ones, and in stories that acknowledge darkness while still allowing room for strength and persistence.
I live and write in the U.S. and balance my work as an author with family life. When I’m not writing, I value time spent reading, reflecting, and staying grounded in the everyday moments that make creative work possible.
